First Visit

Your first appointment usually consists of an in depth clinical examination and review of your treatment options. Usually, treatment can be done or started the same day of consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require additional evaluation, physician consent/opinion if necessary and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.

Please help us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Any x-rays (radiographs) taken by a previous dentist, if available.
  • A present list of medications which you are taking.

Important

All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please inform the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to treatment (i.e., thyroid, bleeding disorders, recent viral infection, diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves, joints, rheumatic fever, asthma, previous allergic reactions etc.) or if you are currently on any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

Dental X-Rays
(Dental Radiographs)

If your dentist or physician has taken any x-rays (radiographs), you may provide us the same as it may sometimes not necessitate for an additional one now or for our comparison. If additional x-rays are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.

Maintaining a proper oral hygiene is necessary for eliminating bacteria in the mouth. Plaque harbours numerous bacteria. It can harden to form calculus deposits and lead to long-term ailments such as gingivitis, a mild form of gum disease and periodontal disease if it is not removed. Sticking on to a good dental care routine and regular dental check-ups will keep your oral cavity healthy and prevent halitosis (bad breath), inflammation, infection, decay and tooth loss.
Dental examination/check-up gives us an opportunity to evaluate your present methods of dental care and provide valuable suggestions for future care to protect your oral cavity from complications such as cavities and gum disease. It also allows us to detect problems early so they can be addressed quickly and easily.
It should generally take place once in six months. However, you can consult with our team to decide how often you should get examined. We may suggest you regarding frequency of visits based on risk factors such as smoking, presence of cavities and genetic susceptibility (hereditary) to tooth & root decay as well as gum disease.
Thorough teeth cleaning, removal of any surface stains or deposits, called tartar or calculus (that are more difficult to remove than plaque and require the assistance of professional dental instruments) may be planned and done in your first visit after examining your oral cavity. Any signs of teeth decay or gum disease shall be noted. An X-ray (radiograph) may be performed to provide a more detailed summary of your oral health and to precisely identify any problems. Questions regarding your current methods of dental care, such as how often you brush your teeth and floss, as well as use of toothpaste with fluoride are enquired and noted. Using this information, we will demonstrate and guide you proper dental care and provide suggestions to improve your dental & food habits to promote optimal oral health.
The best way is to practice good dental care. Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day is recommended. Always inculcate habit of rinsing mouth with plain water to flush of stuck food remnants after eating. Be sure to clean your teeth before you arrive at your appointment. Our team will be cleaning your teeth for you, but it is helpful to remove food and plaque before-hand, enabling us to focus on the more difficult-to-clean areas. You also want to make sure you are prepared to share pertinent information such as your medical history, insurance coverage and current dental care methods with us. Don’t be embarrassed to be honest about your oral health habits – our team is not here to judge you, but to work with you to improve your habits and ensure dental health! Lastly, be prepared to schedule a follow-up appointment for future check-up at the end of your routine dental examination/check-up.
